28mm Ruined Church and some Fields

Hey Folks,

This was a foamcore building I picked up awhile back for War of the Ring as part of a set that included some castle walls, towers and a couple of buildings.  It was whole but I "ruined" it so as to make it easier to game with.  The most time consuming part of any terrain build is the detail work and these were nicely textured as stone blocks.

I have keep it pretty basic and only added balsa wood floors, some rubble and a large wooden Cross on the exterior.  I have tired to keep it pretty non-descriptive so as to be able to use it all the way from 1066 Dark Ages SAGA/ Impetus through to WW2 Force on Force.  Likewise the earth texture is reddish with the grass quite light, so it should be able to be used in the Pacific as well as Europe (in Summer)

The Nave of the Church - it shouldn't really have an entrance here but oh well!
Looking down on the front section with Christian Cross
And with my "crop fields" - teddy bear fur stuck to MDF bases and lightly sprayed Dunkelgelb
A lone Japanese rifleman takes cover in the crops...
So this is the start of my new non-winter terrain table.  The crop fields could be used for any scale and I will look to add hedges and walls to border them for European style games, while in the Pacific they will just be long grass bordering tracks.  I will add some more buildings, a bell tower and Monks Rectory as well as a grave yard.  Together these could easily be a Dark Ages Abbey in Northern England or a Missionary post somewhere in Borneo - with the appropriate surrounding terrain.

Got a WW2 Japanese Section Done (6 men with a type 99 LMG) and a further 6 on the painting table - looking forward to trying out some Force on Force!

Thanks,
Jason

WW2: Pacfic - Japanese Rifleman

Hi Folks,

As seen over on Adams Blog there are some USMC and some WIP Diggers are to be found on Poochies Blog.

This is for a World War II: Pacific 28mm game we are working on, using Ambush Alley's Force on Force games rule.

I am doing Japanese; here is my first horribly sterotypical Bolt Action Miniatures Japanese rifleman.

Light is really crap (he isnt that yellow) and my Matt Varnish dosnt seem that Matt, but you get the idea.

Now,  back to doing work :)

Cheers
Jason

SAGA Illiad: Lycians

Hey Folk,

Work has been stupid busy so progress has been slow on these. I made myself not work yesterday and painted the below while the wife and I watched the Terra Nova pilot (Newish SF TV show from Speilberg, good idea but not gritty enough and too prdictable for our taste)

Painting was good an this morning I finished off my first Warrior unit, 12 Lycians. To make them a bit special I have armed them only with Swords, and one has an axe. Being Pirates for the main I thought swords would be more common than long spears.

Sheilds are a bit shiney as they have just been matt varnished.

Flash Traffic: Major Japanese Victory in the West Pacific

*********************************************************************************
Flash Traffic
Date: 6th February 1870
Sent: IJNS Musashi
Received: Crucible Command Pacific

Message Reads:
Admiral Hitorio Hanso reports a decisive victory against the capitalist forces of the FSA.  Under my command my Task Force has engaged and sunk TWO enemy Battleships, which Shinobi Intelligence has identified from the wreckage as the USS Retribution and USS Constitution.  Both were lost with all hands when their magazines exploded.  IJNS Musashi claims the kill for the first Battleship while the Fleet Air Arm torpedo bomber squadron struck the final blow against the second Battleship.

The enemy frigate screen was swept aside with ease with the new Fujin class Corvettes and Tanuki class Gunships (Heavy Cruisers) preforming well. The enemy Cruiser's disengaged after one of there number was lost and they faced overwhelming odds. My only regret is that the enemy Commander Sheridan was absent at the time. We will know move to occupy the Coral Islands.  We have suffered no significant losses.

Long Live the Empress!

Sorry Jamie!  Not much you could do about dual snake eyes... :(

At least your new terrain looks really good. :)

Flames of War 2012 Completion Challenge: Ze Germans

Hey Folks,

Pooch and I were discussing how much Flames of War models we have lying around, being all tardy and unpainted and the like.  So far he has been a machine and cracked through some Kiwi Armour of Mid and Late war as well as Early and Late war Germans.

I, truth be told have not done a whole lot, mainly focusing on Dystopian Wars as well as being diverted by SAGA.  Craig's Day of Days event has prompted me to paint up some Germans, and it was while searching through my collection I realised I had a ridiculous (though not as bad as some: I'm looking at you of the broken arm, you know who you are!) amount that needed to be built and painted...so the Challenge this year is to get this done;

And note this doesn't include all my Transports that I need to strip/ assemble and paint.
 So for the Panzers this is;

  • A full 14 Tank Tiger Kompanie (note 6 of the Forged in Battle Tigers are a mates that I will paint for him) Including two Tiger I (Porsche) that will do double duty in my 653. Schwerepanzerjager Kompanie
  • Another Elefant (for 3 total) and a Jagdtiger for 653. Schwerepanzerjager
  • 4 Brumbarr's, 3 Mobelwagons and 3 Hummels for the Panzer IV Panzer Kompanie (11 Panzer IV's painted so far)
  • 5 StuG's to add to my 5 Painted StuG's to make a StuG Batterie
  • 9 Panthers, 2 Jagdpanthers and a Bergepanther to make a Panther Kompanie
  • 4 PaK 40 RSO's to go with a Speerverband

For the Infantry this is;

  • 5 Grenadier Platoons, 3 with Light Mortars.  This combined with my one painted platoon will allow me to field a Grenadier Kompanie or Sperverband as well as have more than enough MG Teams to transition to a Panzergrenadier/ Aufklarungs Kompanie or Sturm Kompanie as well as Rifle Teams to field a Schirungs Kompanie
  • 1 Pioneer Platoon with two goliaths. This combined with my painted Pioneer platoon, and pumped out by some Grenadiers will allow me to field a Panzerpioneer Kompanie or a foot Pioneer Kompanie
  • 3 More Fallshcirmjager stands, allowing me to field two full strength squads in Fallschirmjager Kompanie
  • 6 HMG Teams and 2 8cm  to add to my two painted Mortars and HMG's so I can field two full HMG platoons and a full Mortar platoon.
  • A full PaK 40, Pak 36 (7.62cm)r, Pak 38 and Pak 36 Anti-Tank Gun platoons
  • 3 NW42 Nebelwerfers
  • Objectives
So this is an awful lot to paint, and I STILL want more (I would love a Czech and a Medium Panzerkompanie) but I really need to get all this done first...and then onto fixing/ painting replacements for my damaged Soviets and the start of some Kiwis!

So, better get cracking then!

Cheers
Jason
