Warhammer: Vampire Counts WIP and test Models

Hey Folks,

I have been more productive than usual and now have 1200points built, based, primed and ready to paint.
Crappy photo I know, and they are all primed grey, but this is;

39 Skeletons with Spears and full Command led by a Vampire
29 Ghouls led by a Strigoi Ghoul King (lord level vampire mincing machine)
3 Varghiests
The Uber Varghulf

Painted up a selection of test models, all using a technique with a grey tone mix in each colour stage to get a faded undertone going on. They are also dipped at the post basecoat stage, and then highlighted up.
Orange is the unifying colour but I'm not sure on it. Basing is GF9's wasteland set with Army Painter tufts. Didn't take too long so should be easy to smash out :)

Cheers

Warhammer: Vampire Counts Varghulf WIP

Hey Folks,

Now I'm back into blogging I thought I would post today's WIP - a $15 Varghulf for my Vampire Counts undead army.

Varghulfs are, according to the army book Vampires who have let their bestial nature run unchecked ,supplanting their personality, and have devolved into deformed ravenous beasts, swollen on a constant diet of red meat.

They are also dead hard on the table, being tough, cheapish monsters with Regeneration.

Now the GW model is pants, and also (as usual) expensive. I was wandering through Toyworld today and spied this:
A Scheligh fantasy range "human bat". $30 but half price today! Score. The girl at the counter was a bit put out by it and thought it was odd :)

In comparison here is the GW model:

Now it's more than twice the size of GW model, but rediculously large centrepieces is kind of "my thing" :)  It wouldn't do to just plonk him down as is (though it's tempting to make the grognards squeal) so I decided to convert him a bit and give him some hair, to match my Varghiests (baby Varghulfs with less of a kill count)
He is on a Chariot base...which is twice the size of a stock Varghulf's 50mm square but oh well! In case your wondering how big he actually is here is a size comparison with a Mantic Skellie (28mm scale) and a "proper" Varghiest
So he is HUGE, and not a large target according to the rules lol. Yes he will be painted.

Cheers

Back in Action! Panzers, Fallout and the Undead

Hey Folks,

It's been awhile sorry! I'm still beavering away at a few projects and will post updates as I get there.

Recently we had to move out due to EQC repairs and as work had been very busy (Christmas - retail - enough said!) It's been somewhat challenging!

First up I have a new work station :)
So I should be a bit more productive now

I currently have three projects on the hop.

21st Panzer Division Panzer and Motorised Panzergren Kompanies for FOW

Currently awaiting the models this is an army for Craig's Day of Days in Feburary. It's a team event and I'm going with Andy  (Andys Armies is his blog)

Good army to try out the Airbrush on :)

Fallout Tabletop Wargame

As Jaime alluded to I have been scheming to get a tabletop version of my favourite computer game going. I have a lot of models and terrain underway for this (and so does Andy, his terrain is looking awesome) so will get pics up when it's organised. Jamie's doing the game rules while I'm working on the campaign side.

Undead Warhammer Army

I have always been a fan of the Undead. I'm taking a ghoul heavy army as part of an undead tag team with my little brother (he's not that little now!) to Warclouds at Woolston in February. Here is were I'm at so far;

So lots to do! Going to spray and dip :)

Will try to be a bit more regular with the updates!

Warhammer 40k Tau: Broadside Battledrones Finished

Hey Folks,

Unfortunately real life and work ate all my time last week so I had to pull out of Conquest :(

I found I was rushing the army and I decided that given how much time, effort and money I had spent on it it's not worth doing a half assed job.

Today I've had a nice relaxing day with the house to myself so I've gone back and finished the Broadside Battledrones.
I'm quite happy with them. They are actually yellow instead of Tau Sept Ochre but dullcoat and my phone washes this out.

Basing is inspired by this amazing short sci film, Ruin:

Warhammer 40k Tau: Broadside Battledrone Done!

Hey Folks,

Quick update as I have plenty to do as conquest is next weekend!

I recently bought and Airbrush and have been busy spraying Yellow...

It's quick and dirty but I'm pretty happy with the results! The airbrush makes the yellow actually achievable in a decent timeframe. Then it's a quick block in for the the dark and light grey and red. Watered black wash with a touch of soap and then highlight up, add the Emeral green. Base and done.

One down 14 suits, 11 Drones, 2 Riptides and 4 Vehicles to go.

Crap

Warhammer 40k Tau: Battledrone "Prime" Commander

Hey Folks,

Finished building my Battledrone Prime Commander.

As this "counts as" the renegade Commander Farsight he is equipped with a Shield Generator and a "Plasma Blade" which is not only choppy choppy but also shoots bolts of plasma at people (counts as a Plasma Rifle and the Dawn Blade).

He's also very heavily armoured as he will get up close and personal...

9 Days to conquest...rapidly running out if time :(

Warhammer 40k Tau: Heavy Battlerdrone

Hey Folks,

My Riptides arrived finally so in a fit of excitement I quickly built one AND only converted it in a minor fashion to fit the rest of the army. Which I thought was quite restrained for me...but it's an awesome kit.

And it's HUGE

XV-104E Heavy Battledrone armed with an Ion Accelerator (the huge energy gun) and a twin linked Fusion blaster (above the head)
Riptides come with a shield generator
I repositioned the jet pack nacelles and added the much larger air intake off the Pirahna kit as the stock intakes are tiny
Size comparison...it's not small! My Battledrons are much bigger then a normal crisis suit and they only just come up to its waist...

Next up a "Prime" commander Battledrone

Warhammer 40k Tau: Drone Gunship

Hey Folks,

Inspired by the "Hover-Killers" from Terminator and the Dropship from Aliens...

Drone EX-22 Support Gunship
Armed with: Two twin Ion Rifle Turrets, two Seeker missiles, two Missile Pods (top of wings) and 4 Termobaric tactical guided munitions (large missiles under the wings - these count as a Pulse Bomb generator (which I thought looked stupid)) and a Networked Markerlight
Engine assembly and tail ECM/ Chaff dispenser
Loaded for Bear!

Counts as a Sunshark bomber, it should be a world of hurt on hordes as the Pulse Bomb is the large 5" blast and ignores cover...

18 days to Conquest and only one unit painted...good news is that the Heavy Battledrones requested have finally made it in country and are soon to arrive at the forward depot for calibration and pre deployment checks. :)

Cheers

Warhammer 40k Tau: Drone Version 3(!)

Hey Folks,

Decided to make (another) version of the drones - this time more in line with an actual hover type akin to the "proper" drones.

These May or may not have been inspired by a game of X-wing vs TIE fighter.

Right to left: Missile Drone, Gun Drone and a Marker (laser designator) Drone.
Side/Rear shot.

I'm going to repurpose the "Geth" Infantry drones as Fire Warriors.

Cheers

Warhammer 40k Tau: Broadside Battledrones and Missile Drone

Hey Folks,

Some good work done today with the final two Broadside Battledrones built, this time with twin Heavy Rail Rifles;

These are built along the same lines as the previous High Yeild Missile Pack armed broadside with tripod legs, XV-9 torsos and Shas O Rali's head. I've also used the Pulse Submunition Rifles from Shas O Rali with the heat sinks slightly repositioned. I think these make mean Railguns!
This is my final Geth inspired Drone, this time armed with a Missile Pod. It's quite different from the previous Sniper Drone as it used a Firewarrior torso, a necron head for the pelvis(!)and a new, improved jet pack which used plastic tube, a Firewarrior shoulder pad, necron backplate and parts of a drone. It's a bit rough as it suffered a superglue malfunction but I will tidy it up. I have five more under construction.
Group shot so far. It's about 500pts worth so the army is a quarter built.

23 Days to Conquest!

Cheers

Warhammer 40k Tau: Crisis Battledrone v2 and Broadside Battledrone

Hey Folks,

I was struck by sudden inspiration to redo my original Crisis Battledrone concept. The first seemed quite bulky and I thought if there was no real requirement for anyone to be inside the suit then this would change the design philosophy...

First (mostly) painted Crisis Battledrone - just the (magnatised) Paulson Games weapons and base to finish. I've gone for a Stoney White main armour colour as it's a good colour to show off the extensive battle damage.

The first three Crisis Battledrones.

I've gone for a much narrower cross section as well as an overall smoother and more organic style. It's built around two gun drones sandwiched together. The front torso is half a crisis jet pack and the stealth jet pack for the rear thrusters. Top is off the Devilfish burst cannon support.

Next up is a Broadside Battledrone
I've gone for a heavy tripod style leg system to give it maximum mobility across a ruined urban battlezone. The torso and head is the Forgeworld XV-9 commander. High Yeild Missiles are from the New Broadside kit while the Smart Missile System are Paulson Games again. I have two more to build - this time with heavy rail rifles.

Conquest is 25 days away so lots of work to do!

Thanks
Jason
